Experiment #1 – Emily Dickinson

So now that I’m totally into translation and poetry(!), I would like to attempt my first English-to-Hebrew poetry translation! I will begin my potentially volatile experiment with the lovely Emily Dickinson.

 

I’m nobody! Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there’s a pair of us — don’t tell!
They’d banish us, you know.

How dreary to be somebody!
How public, like a frog
To tell your name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

 

אני אף אחד! מי אתה?

האם אתה אף אחד, גם?

אז אנחנו זוג – אל תספר!

הם יגרשו אותנו, תדע לך.

 כל כך משעמם להיות מישהו!

כל כך ציבורי, כמו צפרדע

לומר את שימך כל היום

לבִּצה מעריצה!
